The cottage did look forlorn.<br />
‘Cressie,’ cried Sophie looking out of the window.<br />
‘Your dad’s carrying a pink dog!’<br />
‘Ghosts - now pink dogs! I don't believe you!’<br />
But Sophie was right. The girls rushed down to see<br />
what had happened to the poor sheepdog.<br />
Tim was talking softly to Lollipop the whole time.<br />
It took a long time to wash the sticky paint off but at<br />
last Lollipop was back to her black and white fur.<br />
‘Poor Lolly,’ said Tim ‘She's had quite a shock but<br />
she looks happy enough now. And all because Farmer<br />
Bagwash thought I'd stolen his ladder!’<br />
Sophie and Cressida gasped in amazement.<br />
A stolen ladder!<br />
Could that possibly be the ladder that the ghosts<br />
had used last night?<br />
‘Why did he think you had stolen the ladder,<br />
daddy?’ asked Cressida shocked that anyone could<br />
think such a thing.<br />
Tim explained how Mrs Whistle-White had found<br />
the ladder in her garden that morning and suggested<br />
he used it while he was painting her house.<br />
‘Mr Stack,’ said Sophie. ‘Would you like us to take<br />
Lollipop back to Farmer Bagwash for you?’<br />
'That's very kind of you. Thank you. It'll let me get<br />
on with some packing. We'll be very sorry to leave this<br />
