Stage Fright!

Cressida and Sophie exchanged glances. Did Abby
know that because of her father Cressida was going
to have to leave the village?
‘Why is your father...,’ began Sophie but seeing
Cressida frown she stopped in her tracks. Perhaps it
wasn't right to talk about non-DDC things in the
meeting. Instead Sophie suggested they all had a good
look round The Barn Theatre and then the meeting
could begin in earnest.
‘What are we going to do for a stage?’ asked Beaky.
Sophie's dad had had an idea for the stage.
‘See those old book shelves?’ explained Sophie.
‘Well, we're going to lie them down on the ground
and then dad is going to nail chipboard on top. The
only trouble is we've got to buy the chipboard and dad
says it'll cost about twenty pounds which the DDC
will have to pay for.’
‘Pay for!’ exclaimed Beaky, tapping her nose. ‘But
we haven't got any money!’
‘No. I know. We've also got to pay for the lights.’
‘How much will the lights be?’
‘Forty pounds.’
‘Forty pounds! That's sixty pounds we need already
and we haven't got any money at all!’ wailed Harry.
‘Let's think about this,’ said practical Beaky. ‘How
many people can sit in this theatre?’
