Sighing John returned to his lighting duties, very slowly and carefully illuminating the stage with a green light. He turned the dimmer so gently that at first you could hardly see anything. Then slowly the dim outline of Scrooge lying in bed on stage emerged from the gloom. To Susie's horror a black figure appeared at the back of the stage. She screamed! ‘Ssshh Susie!’ said Cressida. ‘It's only Lou dressed up as the Ghost of Christmas Future.’ ‘Thorry! Thorry!’ whispered Susie. John turned up the green light a little more leaving the stage dimly lit. Are you the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come? asked Scrooge in a terrified voice. The ghost only lifted its arm and beckoned. Ghost of the Future! cried Scrooge. 82

The ghost kept its eerie silence and kept beckoning. Scrooge rose from his bed to follow when he froze. From the gloom behind the Ghost of Future had appeared two more ghostly figures. Scrooge knew that the Ghost of Future was Lou dressed up. But who were the other two who had appeared from nowhere... ? It could only be one thing ... ... real ghosts! The children in the audience sat frozen with fear, unable to move. The Ghost of Christmas Future turned to lead Scrooge off stage and was confronted by the sight of two terrifying figures, white floaty beings, beckoning just as he had done. The silence was shattered as Lou let out the most piercing scream. ‘Ghosts!’ she screamed and rushed off stage. 83
