One absolutely boiling hot August day towards the
end of the long summer holidays Cressida came
round to play with Sophie. Nearly every day Cressie
was at Sophie’s house or Sophie was at Cressie’s.
Some things were different about the girls. Sophie was
tall-ish, Cressie was small-ish, Sophie had long-ish
hair, Cressie had short-ish hair, Cressida thought of
good ideas and worked them out whilst Sophie
thought of good ideas and leapt on them. Both girls
were afraid of sharks but that is not important in this
story. Some things were the same about the girls
(apart from liking acting, of course). They wore
similar clothes, their favourite sweets were Fizzy-Pops
which fizzed like mad in your mouth then suddenly
went pop and always surprised you even though you
KNEW the pop was coming, and, most importantly,
they thought the same things as only best friends do.
Today they played their favourite game of acting
out their made up play The Gobbling Goose and
The Ferocious Fox.
‘Squawk! Squawk!’ screeched Sophie.
‘Snap! Snap!’ yelled Cressie.
But it was swelteringly hot and the girls were so, so
fed up of pretending to act and not really acting. Puffed
out, they flopped down on the grass amongst the
daises and gazed up at the sky.
