‘As for you, young lady,’ said Farmer Bagwash
turning to face Cressida. ‘You have made me think.
Perhaps I have been a little hasty. I should never have
accused your father of stealing. He's in fact, the
most honest of men. I've just been having a chat with
him and apologised. I have ... berwooomph!...
been wrong!’
Abby's eyes nearly popped out of her head. She
had never, ever heard her father admit to being
wrong!
‘Not only that but I could do with some help on
the farm with the animals. I need a good chap.
Someone that understands and cares for animals. Just
like your father does, Cressida. So I've ....
berwooomph! ... offered your father the job!’
‘But Farmer Bagwash I know he'd love to work on
a farm with animals but he couldn't possibly take the
job. We're moving to Ditch tomorrow,’ said Cressida.
‘Hawthorne Cottage goes with the job!’ replied
Farmer Bagwash in a matter-of-fact voice.
‘Hawthorne Cottage goes with the job!’ Cressida
repeated the words slowly, letting the wonderful news
sink in. ‘We can stay at Hawthorne Cottage?’
‘Yes! Berwooomph! You can stay and you'll be
most welcome. I’ll be off now. Make sure Lollipop
gets up to no more mischief.’
