Stage Fright!

Sophie's mum led the way across to The Barn
Theatre with Sophie, Cressida, John, Harry and
Beaky following cautiously. Hen and Abby stayed in
the house to look after Lou and Susie who were still
terrified.
‘Right-ho. Where were these ghosts?’ asked mum.
‘They came from backstage,’ said Beaky,
hardly daring to look.
Mum went backstage. She looked behind all the
curtains, under the stage and inside the props
cupboard.
‘There's nothing or nobody here,’ she called.
‘But ghosts wouldn't leave anything anyway would
they. They just sort of disappear into thin air ... just
like ... ghosts.’
‘Hmm,’ said mum. ‘I think you must have been
imagining things. Why don't you go and get the
others and finish the rehearsal. You don't want them
to go home frightened or thinking The Barn Theatre
is haunted. I'll stay and watch. That should scare off
any ghosts that might want to come back!’
‘Thanks mum!’ said Sophie relieved.
John went to fetch the others. Just as he went across
the yard he remembered how he had seen those two
shadowy figures lurking in the dark earlier on. This
time he spent no time looking but ran into the house
