Stage Fright!

I have a merry Christmas tale to tell.
So full of woe
A sad, sad jolly tale.
Dismal. Heart rendering.
But fear not... it does have a happy ending.
Though I speak, I am really dead.
As dead as bread gone stale.
As dead as a dead, dead door nail.
My name is Marley
... and I fear... I am a ghost!
But tonight,
I am happily your miserable host.
The tale I have to tell is of a man
generous in his meanness
Delighting in his own sadness.
A sack of sin upon his shoulders so huge ...
Our very own Ebenezer Scrooge!
Backstage the DDC booed loudly at the word
‘Scrooge’. Now the play had began they were all
enjoying themselves. By the time they reached the
interval it was clear that the audience was enjoying
themselves too.
As the applause died down and chatter took over,
John turned on the fairy lights and went backstage to
join the DDC.
