fairy lights amongst the festive greenery. Golden
baubles turned gently, catching and dancing in the
coloured lights, glistening tinsel sparkled and glinted.
A wonderful, warm smell of cinnamon and nutmeg
hung in the air from the mulled wine and above all
the excited chatter came the sound of Christmas
carols from the music system Sophie's dad had set up
especially for the show.
By now all the members of the DDC
were backstage.
‘Three minutes to go,’ whispered John. ‘I'm going
up to do the lights now.’
John crept out from backstage and made his way
to the back of the ground floor theatre and up to the
lighting gallery. He loved it up there. There were
always plenty of insects and spiders. It was also a
magnificent view. He could see the heads of the
audience and the stage quite clearly. He glanced
around at The Forbidden Door. No sign of any
ghosts! He glanced at his watch. One minute to go.
He looked down at the ticket office. Elsa was looking
at her watch. She peeped outside to make sure that
there were no latecomers, made sure everyone inside
The Barn Theatre had a seat, then turned and gave
John the thumbs up. John grinned and gave Elsa the
thumbs up back.
