‘Tip top,’ added Cressie. ‘But now we’ve got to
turn the drawings into costumes. We need a wardrobe
mistress.’
‘Could I be the wardrobe mistress,’ begged Lou.
‘I can sew and I’m learning to use a sewing machine.
It’s really speedy. Brrrrrrrrr. We can borrow things
like trousers and jackets and I can make the rest. Even
a costume for you Abby.’
‘Thanks Lou,’ said Sophie and Cressie delighted.
‘When the costumes are ready we can hang them
along this beam so they’ll all be here and ready for
the performance,’ added Sophie.
‘Aha! Our wardrobe!’ said Lou, her eyes gleaming.
‘You better have the costume book,’ said Cressida
handing a delighted Lou the book of drawings.
The meeting came to a close.
‘Let’s work hard at putting up posters and trying
to sell all the tickets,’ said Cress as everyone left.
‘We've only got two weeks to go before the show. And
don't forget to get going on the mince pies!’
When everyone had gone Sophie walked back with
Cress to Hawthorne Cottage. It was a pretty stone
cottage, with apple trees in the garden and a vegetable
plot where Cressie's dad grew lots of food.
‘Are you really going to have to go?’ asked Sophie.
