‘Berwooomph!’ exploded Farmer Bagwash.<br />
This strange whistling sound used to shock<br />
Mrs Bagwash when they were first married but now<br />
she found it a useful sign that her husband was<br />
reaching bursting point!<br />
‘Berwooomph!’ he repeated careering round the<br />
kitchen like a bull in a china shop. ‘A walk! Do you<br />
know how much work I've got to do this afternoon?’<br />
‘You've been working since six o'clock this morning<br />
without a break. It's a lovely day and I think it would<br />
do you good,’ persisted Mrs Bagwash gently.<br />
‘Do me good! Do me good! I know what does me<br />
good. Berwooomph I do! Having my tools at the<br />
ready! Come on Lollipop. Let's go on a walk to find<br />
the bloomin’ ladder.’<br />
‘A walk? What a good idea!’ said Mrs Bagwash<br />
smiling.<br />
Farmer Bagwash set off with Lollipop, his sheep<br />
dog, scampering at his side. He turned into Goose<br />
Lane. He spotted Tim Stack, Cressida’s father,<br />
perched up a ladder, painting the window frames of<br />
Mrs Whistle-White’s house a violent pink.<br />
‘Jolly colour, what!’ called out Farmer Bagwash,<br />
thinking how ghastly it looked.<br />
‘I'm glad you approve. Pink has always been my<br />
favourite. I chose this particular shade myself. It's<br />
