Stage Fright!

‘Berwooomph!’ exploded Farmer Bagwash.
This strange whistling sound used to shock
Mrs Bagwash when they were first married but now
she found it a useful sign that her husband was
reaching bursting point!
‘Berwooomph!’ he repeated careering round the
kitchen like a bull in a china shop. ‘A walk! Do you
know how much work I've got to do this afternoon?’
‘You've been working since six o'clock this morning
without a break. It's a lovely day and I think it would
do you good,’ persisted Mrs Bagwash gently.
‘Do me good! Do me good! I know what does me
good. Berwooomph I do! Having my tools at the
ready! Come on Lollipop. Let's go on a walk to find
the bloomin’ ladder.’
‘A walk? What a good idea!’ said Mrs Bagwash
smiling.
Farmer Bagwash set off with Lollipop, his sheep
dog, scampering at his side. He turned into Goose
Lane. He spotted Tim Stack, Cressida’s father,
perched up a ladder, painting the window frames of
Mrs Whistle-White’s house a violent pink.
‘Jolly colour, what!’ called out Farmer Bagwash,
thinking how ghastly it looked.
‘I'm glad you approve. Pink has always been my
favourite. I chose this particular shade myself. It's
