Stage Fright!

‘Tiptop!’ said Cressida impressed.
‘Now we just need to decide the cast. That is who
is going to be who?’ said Beaky beaming. ‘We, that is
grandpa and I, have drawn up a list of all the
characters in the play.’
‘We could audition,’ suggested Cressida.
‘Oh no!’ squeaked Susie in horror.
‘We could think who was most like which
character.’
‘Who is the meanest?’
‘Who is the most spooky?’
‘Does anyone have a bad leg?’
‘Is anyone dead?’
Cressida looked worried. These were not good
suggestions.
‘With acting,’ said Beaky thoughtfully, ‘you just
need to get into the character. You pretend what they
are like. You don’t actually have to be mean to act
mean.’
‘You’re right Beaky. Let’s run through the list and
put your hand up if I read out a character that you
think you could pretend to be.’
‘Tho you don’t have to be dead to be a thpirit?’
‘No Susie.’
‘Or have a bad leg if you want to be Tiny Tim?’
‘No Susie.’
