‘Rely on me!’ said Beaky tapping her nose. Susie<br />

smiled at Beaky gratefully and tapped her own little<br />

nose in reply.<br />

‘Who is Mistletoe?’ asked Abby curiously.<br />

‘Mistletoe is head of the spirits. It was grandpa’s<br />

idea. They are Jacob Marley's helpers. They are not<br />

actually in the book but he thought it would be fun if<br />

we had a spirit chorus. It's a sort of alternative to all<br />

the ghosts that are actually flying around in the book,’<br />

explained Beaky. ‘We’ve called them Christmassy<br />

names like ‘Roastchestnut’ and ‘Plumpud’!’<br />

‘Let's try it out!’ said Cressida. ‘Everyone can be a<br />

spirit for now. Look this is how the chorus goes on<br />

page six.’<br />

Everyone turned to page six of the script.<br />

‘Let's stand in a row and read it out.’<br />

The girls stood in a line and this is what they read:<br />

We are spirits, ghosts and ghouls.<br />

We float on your whispers,<br />

fly on laughs ...<br />

‘Wait! Wait! Stop! Stop! Stop!’ interrupted Sophie<br />

horrified. ‘That sounds terrible. Absolutely awful!<br />
