PIECES OF QUIET benutzt zusammengestellte Fernseher
und elektronische Geräte um einen geschlossenen
Kreis zwischen Bild, Ton, Installation und Künstler zu
schaffen. Auf dieser Suche nach Interaktion wird eine
direkte Situation kreiert, in welcher alle Teile eng miteinander
verbunden sind und im Auge des Betrachters
eine maximalen Intensität der Wahrnehmung erlangen.
Der Ton wird direkt in ein Bild verwandelt ohne ein
vorgefertigte Software oder ein digitales Präfix. Eine
unmittelbares Interaktion zwischen dem Bild und dem
Ton wird im Gedanken des Künstlers geboren. Der Closed
Circuit verlangt vom Künstler spezifische kompositorische
Begrenzungen, so dass das Bild zum Instrument,
Produzent und Komponist wird. Der Künstler
wird beides, Meister und Sklave des erzeugten Bildes.
PIECES OF QUIET creates a closed circuit between image,
sound, installation and performer, using reassembled
televisions and electronic devices. In this search
for interaction, a rare and sincere direct situation is
created in which every part is tightly connected, resulting
in a sensation of maximal intensity in the audience's
eyes. When sound is directly translated to image,
without a precomposed digital prefix, an intuitive
desire for interaction between the image and the
sound is born in the mind of the performer. The fixed
circuit imposes specific compository limitations on
the performer, the image hence becomes instrument,
producer and composer. The performer becomes both
master and slave to the image that is produced.
Valentijn Goethals, *1987 in Torhout, studied graphic
design at Sint-Lucas visual arts Ghent in 2009, now
studying experimental arts.

Die Performance besteht aus den folgenden Elementen:
Ein Poster (60x80, identisch mit dem Bild für den
Katalog), eine Uhr (ohne Zeiger, aber trotzdem tickend)
und einem Karton. Das Poster und die Uhr sind auf Augenhöhe
an der Wand angebracht. Vor dieses werde
ich den Karton stellen (ich werde ihn von meinem Kopf
nehmen) und auf ihn steigen. (Dann ist er zerdrückt)
Und ich werde laut mit sich änderndem Volumen und
Rhytmus sagen ›ALLES WAS GESCHIEHT GESCHIEHT
HEUTE‹. Nach der Performance bleiben die Uhr, das
Poster und der Karton als Installation stehen.
The performance consist of the following elements: A
poster (60x80, same as the image for the catalogue), a
clock (whitout the arms but it is still ticking) and a
cardboardbox. The poster and the clock are attached
to the wall at eyelevel. In front of it I will put the cardboardbox
(I will remove it from my head) and step on it.
(Than it crushes) And I will say aloud with changing
volume and rythm ›ALLES WAS GESCHIET GESCHIEHT
HEUTE‹. After the performance the clock, poster and
cardboardbox stay as an installation.
Nick Defour, *1988 in Halle, Belgium, finished his MA
degree in Fine Arts at Sint-Lukas Brussel University in
2010.
