Leuchtend weisse, rautenförmige
Gebilde gleiten von rechts nach
links über eine tiefschwarze Fläche
im Cinemascope-Format. Minimale
Bewegungsvariationen sind auszumachen.
Nach und nach hellt sich
die Leinwand auf und eine grobe
Holzstruktur wird sichtbar. Die vermeintlich
abstrakte Animation
wandelt sich mittels subtiler Veränderungen
der Lichtsituation und
des Kamerawinkels und -abstands
in eine konkrete, filmisch-architektonische
Versuchsanordnung.
Luminous white, diamond-shaped
forms glide from right to left across
a jet-black plane in Cinemascope
format. Minimal variations in their
movement can be seen. Subtle
changes in the light and the camera's
distance and angle transform
this presumably abstract animation
into a concrete setup for a
filmic and architectural experiment.

Björn Kämmerer, *1977 in Stralsund
(GDR), grew up in Berlin. Lives
and works in Vienna. Studied from
2002-2008 at Kunstuniversität Linz
(Experimental Media Art), and at
the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna
(Art and Digital Media). Works with
film and video art.

Eine Frau und ein Mann üben die
grosse Umarmung. Der Fernseher
zeigt ein tanzendes Paar aus einem
Hollywoodmusical. Sie versuchen
das Vorbild nachzuahmen, doch
ihre Bewegungen sind hölzern und
ihre Schritte kleben am Boden, als
sei die Gravitationskraft erhöht.
Durch ihre Beflissenheit geht die
Leichtigkeit des Originals gänzlich
verloren. Was bleibt ist die Melancholie
des Scheiterns.
A man and a woman in a big embrace.
The TV shows a couple dancing
in a Hollywood musical. The
man and woman attempt to follow
suit, but their movements are
wooden and their feet leaden, as if
under extra gravitational pull. Their
perseverance completely robs their
dance of the lightness of the original.
All that remains is the melancholy
cast of failure.
Max Philipp Schmid, *1962 in
Switzerland, independent director
and video artist. After studies in art
he qualified as a visual arts teacher
at Basel University of Arts and Design.
His works have been shown at
numerous international festivals,
museums and galleries.

Maria Niro
Während die Protagonistin auf einen
Anwalt wartet (sie wird eine
›Patientenverfügung‹ unterschreiben),
blättert sie durch ein Buch
mit dem Titel ›Cosa Nostra‹. Wir
hören ihre Worte ungeschönt und
ärgerlich, es werden Gefühle angeschnitten,
Gedanken über Leben,
Tod und die Wut und Angst, die sie
bei dem Gedanken empfindet, jemanden
zu töten. Wer ist sie? Wir
wissen nicht viel über sie, aber wir
werden einige erstaunliche Enthüllungen
erfahren.
As the protagonist waits for a
lawyer (she is about to sign a ›living
will‹) she thumps through a book
called ›Cosa Nostra‹. We hear her
words raw and charged, touching
upon emotions and thoughts about
life, death and the anger and angst
she feels towards the idea of having
to take someone else's life. Who
is she? We don't know much about
her, we will gain knowledge of some
startling revelations.
Maria Niro is a New York City based
artist working with video, sound and
photography. Working mostly in series,
her current body of work explores
the poetics of memory and
dreams. Maria Niro's work has
screened in festivals and galleries
in the United States, the United
Kingdom, Canada, Bulgaria, Ireland
and on French and German TV.
