›Auf ganz assoziative Art und Weise platziert Nina Yuen mehrere
Geschichten nebeneinander: Geschichten vom Tod und dessen
Ritualen, von Wachstum, Blütezeit und Verfall. Im kleinen
Schwarzen spielt sie selbst sämtliche Rollen im Film. Sie spielt
Juanita, die Katze, die begraben wird und auf deren Grab drei
rosafarbene Blumen gelegt werden. Oder sie ist ihre verstorbene
Mutter, die nach ihrem Tod in einem Baum erscheint. Sie
spielt auch jemanden, der zu einem Ort im Fluss zurückkehrt,
an dem sie, wie sie glaubt, sterben wird. Dieses Mal hat die
Künstlerin keine Kulisse in ihrem Studio oder einem anderen Innenbereich
aufgebaut; alles ereignet sich draußen, in üppiger
Natur. Während der Begleitkommentar die verschiedenen Geschichten
miteinander verbindet, stellt man sich die Frage, ob
diese Geschichten dem persönlichen Leben der Künstlerin entnommen
sind oder ob alles frei erfunden wurde.‹ Netherlands

›In an associative manner, Nina Yuen places several stories side
by side: stories of death and its rituals, of growth, bloom and
decay. Wearing a little black dress, she herself plays the various
roles in the film. She plays Juanita, the cat that is being buried,
with three pink flowers being placed on her grave. Or she is her
dead mother who appears in a tree after her death. She also
plays someone who returns to the place in the river where she
thinks she will die. This time the artist has not built a set in her
studio or another inside location; everything is happening outside,
in the lushness of nature. While the voice-over links the diverging
stories together, you wonder if these are stories from
the artist's personal life or if it is all made up.‹ Netherlands Media

Nina Yuen was born in Hawaii in 1981. She received a Bachelor of
Arts Degree in at Harvard University in 2003. She had a residency
at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. Her work has been
shown internationally and throughout North America in institutions
such as the Total Museum, the Portland Institute of Contemporary
Art and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston.
She lives and works in Amsterdam.

Während Stefan und Paul in der Bermuda
Bar entspannt an ihrem Cocktail schlürfen,
macht es sich Ann-Kristin zu Hause auf ihrer
Couch gemütlich. ›Ein wenig Gesellschaft
wäre nicht schlecht‹ denkt sie sich und
schickt per Handy eine Einladung an Stefan.
Er überlegt nicht lange und fragt Paul, ob er
mitkommen möchte. Ann-Kristine freut sich
über den Besuch und lädt Paul dazu ein, sich
zu ihr und Stefan auf die Couch zu setzen.
Langsam kommen sie sich näher ...
While Stefan and Paul relax sipping their
cocktail, Ann-Kristin gets cosy on her couch.
›Some company wouldn't do any harm,‹ she
considers, and in doing so she thinks of Stefan.
He and Paul are sitting in a bar, when
suddenly Stefan’s phone rings. It is an invitation
from Ann-Kristin. Stefan does not contemplate
for long and asks Paul to join him.
Ann-Kristin is happy about the visit and
kindly invites the two men to join her on the
couch, where they gradually get closer to one
another …
Johannes Dullin, *1980 in Herdecke/Ruhr,
grew up in Bonn. He trained at Scuola Teatro
Dimitri (CH) 2000-2004. He works as an actor
and director. Co-founder and artistic director
of Banality Dreams (performance and theatre)
and co-founder of the Authentic Boys
(Film and Fine Arts). He is a regular tutor at
Scuola Teatro Dimitri (CH).
