Das Videoarchiv im documenta Archiv setzt vier Schwerpunkte: die Berichterstattung des öffentlich-rechtlichen
Fernsehens zu den documenta-Ausstellungen, Dokumentationen über documenta-Künstler, Reportagen
über v. a. für die documenta-Geschichte relevante Themen und schließlich die Videokunst von documenta-
Künstlern.
Der letztgenannte Bereich macht nur etwa 10 % des mehr als 3.000 Titel umfassenden Videoarchivs aus. Der
Fokus liegt also auf der Kunstdokumentation. Für das mediaartbase.de-Projekt kristallisierten sich vier Auswahlkonvolute
aus dem Gesamtbestand heraus, zwei davon sollen auf dem EMAF 2011 vorgestellt werden.
Im Rahmen von mediaartbase.de hat das documenta Archiv eine Kooperation mit dem Archiv des Hessischen
Rundfunks etabliert, die es ermöglichte, die jeweiligen Bestände im Hinblick auf das Thema documenta abzugleichen
und daraufhin rund 550 Titel digitalisieren zu lassen und in das documenta Archiv zu überführen. Aus
dieser Sammlung zeigen wir einen Ausschnitt aus einer Reportage aus dem Jahr 1959: ein interessantes Dokument,
das nicht nur die Qualität der Digitalisierung aufweist, sondern auch die Unterschiede in der Kunstbetrachtung
im Vergleich zu heute.
Ein weiteres Auswahlkonvolut umfasst den Themenbereich Performance, die auf der documenta 8 (1987) mit
einer eigenen Sektion vertreten war, die fast komplett aufgezeichnet wurde. 50 Performance-Titel konnten wir
in den Projektbestand überführen und so eine Kunstform präsentieren, die sich vor allem durch ihren flüchtigen
Charakter auszeichnet, was wiederum zeigt, dass die Bewahrung von Kunstdokumentation in kunstwissenschaftlicher
Hinsicht sehr wichtig ist. Die Performance ›Zweitgeist‹ von Jürgen Klauke wird als Beispiel dienen.
The video archives in the documenta Archive have four principal focal points: reporting by public broadcasting
stations on documenta exhibitions, documentations on documenta artists, coverage of topics mainly relevant
to the history of the documenta and, finally, the video art of documenta artists.
The latter area accounts for around only 10 % of the video archives, comprising over 3000 titles. The focus is
therefore on the documentation of art. Four selected compilations emerge from the total collection for the mediaartbase.de
project, two of which will be presented at EMAF 2011.
In the scope of mediaartbase.de, the documenta Archive has established a co-operative project with the
archives of Hessischer Rundfunk, which enabled the respective collections to be compared with regard to the
subject of the documenta. This led to the digitisation of around 550 titles, which were conveyed to the documenta
Archive. We will show an excerpt from 1959 coverage from this collection: an interesting document that
not only demonstrates the quality of digitisation, but also differently art was observed compared to today.
Another selected compilation comprises the subject area of performance, represented with its own section at
documenta 8 (1987), much of which was recorded. 50 performance titles were conveyed to the project collection,
thus presenting an art form characterised primarily by its fleeting nature which, in turn, shows that the
conservation of the documentation of art is very important from an art science perspective. Jürgen Klauke’s
performance ›Zweitgeist‹ will be used as an example.
