Unschuldige und ansprechende Bilder, wie ein
schwimmender Frosch oder eine verschneite Straße,
gefolgt von Liebeserklärungen und angedeuteter Gewalt,
werden mit seltsamen, unzusammenhängenden
Bildern, wie Close Up‘s von Blumen, Körperteilen oder
Nahrungsmitteln zusammengeschnitten. Die Atmosphäre
des Films wird immer düsterer und beunruhigender,
obwohl nichts direkt dargestellt wird. Die gesteigerte
Intensität wird durch den bedrückenden
Rhythmus einer Trommel verstärkt, die die Bruchstücke
von Musik und Kommentaren begleitet. Wie
auch bei anderen Filmen von Prouvost, werden die die
Grenzen der Wahrnehmung durch das filmische Tempo
getestet und so erschwert jedes Bild und jeden
Kommentar zu begreifen.
Innocent and pleasing images, such as a swimming
frog or snowy street scene, are followed by statements
of love and implied violence. These are inter-cut with
strange, disconnected images, such as close-ups of
flowers, body parts or food. The mood of the film gradually
becomes darker and more unsettling, though
nothing is stated directly. The growing intensity of the
film is reinforced by the oppressive rhythm of a drum
which accompanies snatches of music and speech. As
with Prouvost's other films, the pace tests the limits
of perception and makes it hard to take in every image
and comment.

»THE FRUITS ELECTRIC«

Ein Mädchen und ›Der Reflektor‹ werden an einen
Strand gespült. Auf seltsame Weise angelockt von
›Den Flaggen‹ und geheimnisvollen Klängen beginnt
sie die Insel auf der sie gestrandet ist zu erkunden. Als
sie ›die Früchte‹ von ›Dem Baum‹ des Klanges pflückt,
befindet sie sich plötzlich an einem mysteriösen Haus
= ›Der Transformator‹. In diesem Moment wird ihr klar,
dass sie nun die Hüterin der Klangkrone ist, sie wurde
zum ›Fruits Electric Girl‹.
A girl and ›The Reflektor‹ are washed ashore on a
beach. Strangely attracted by ›The Flags‹ and uncanny
sounds, she starts exploring the island she has become
stranded on. When she picks ›The Fruits‹ from
›The Tree‹ of sound, she is instantly transposed to a
mysterious house = ›The Transformer‹. This is when
she becomes aware of her transformation: she is now
the keeper of the sound crown, she has become the
fruits electric girl.
Leyla Rodriguez, *1975 in Villa Carlos Paz, Argentina.
1984 emigrated to Germany. 1997-2004 Studied at HAW
University, Fashion Design Department Hamburg
(Diplom). Leyla worked as a costume designer for film
(e.g. 2007 Oscar winning ›Nimmermeer‹).
CRISTIAN STRAUB, *1977 in Bucharest, Romania. 1987
emigrated to Germany. 2000-2007 Film Studies
(Diplom) at Hamburg Arts School in the class of R. Neumann
and W. Wenders.
