Aus der Sicht einer Person, die von einem Hochhaus
fällt. Ein optisch festgehaltener Traum vom Fallen, der
einerseits wunderschön aber auch bedrohlich ist. Der
Film basiert hauptsächlich auf Filmmaterial von einer
Super-8-Kamera, die von einem 60-stöckigen Gebäude
fallen gelassen wurde und speziell ausgestattet
war, um eine zurückschauende Perspektive zu gewährleisten.
Das Konzept entstand aus einem Traum,
den Larose einst hatte und in dem er von einem Hochhaus
fiel, den Blick während des Sturzes nach oben
gerichtet.
The point-of-view of an individual falling from high
rise buildings. An optically printed dream of falling,
both gorgeous and ominous. The film centers around
footage taken from a super 8 camera that has been
dropped from a 60 story building, specially rigged to
maintain a backwards looking perspective. The concept
was born from a dream that Larose had in which
he was falling from a high-rise facing up throughout
the descent.
Alexandre Larose is a French-Canadian filmmaker
based in Montreal. Holding degrees both in Engineering
and Fine Arts, Larose incorporates elements of the scientific
method into his creative process. His work investigates
phenomena of appearance and representation
as translated by the media of optics and celluloid.
Larose is currently studying Studio Arts at the Graduate
level.

Für diesen Film müssen Sie sich Zeit nehmen. Der Titel
ist Programm. Angelegt als prosaische Studie zur
filmischen Wahrnehmung von Zeit zeigt der Wiener
Medienkünstler Gerald Zahn eine Person, die für die
Dauer des Films ihren Atem anhält. Der emotionale
Aufruhr im Gesicht des Protagonisten, wie er sich von
Sekunde zu Sekunde zur verrinnenden Zeit der Stoppuhr
kämpft, machen 5 Minuten zu einer Achterbahnfahrt
zwischen Spannung, Zweifel und Erwartung.
This is a film you have to take time for. As a study of
time in cinematic perception, Viennese media artist
Gerald Zahn visualises 5 minutes by filming a person
holding his breath for the duration of the film. In contrast
with the casual disregard for mere 5 minutes in
the film title, the film fills this period with significance.
The emotional turmoils on the actor's face as
he fights through every second on the stop-watch,
make 5 minutes a cinematic era of tension, doubt and
expectation.
Gerald Zahn, *1971, is a media and video artist currently
based in Vienna. In his projects he works with
everyday objects to explore the phenomena of contemporary
life and the entertainment industry. His mediabased
works focus on the visual reinterpretation and
iconisation of norms and contemporary roles.
