8. SUMMARY
proportional to the ischemia time. Inte thin bowel the lesions varied from degree O (no
lesion), to degree 1 (development of te subepitelial Gruenhagen space), until degree 4
(necrosis and substance lack in muscular layers, with loss of te mucous), depending on
the ischemia time, becoming maximum at 120 minutes ofischemia.
Distance lesions were produced in far organs, specially lungs, provoking situations
with multiorganic failure and shock, that led te animals subjected to high isehemia time to
dead and tose subjected to low ischemia time to survival with a total recovery.
Conclusions
The occiusion and later repermeabilización ofarteria mesenteric cranealis, causes
an increment of the mortality in New-Zealand rabbits, significantly proportional at the
time ofíschemía.
The mortality takes place mainly during the first 24 hours post-ischemia,
diminishing drastically the 20 day and being sporadic afier this date, reason why it is
possible to state that the course of ischemia is predominantly acute, increasing the
possibilities of survival only letting the time pass.
The isehemia-reperfusión ofthe artery mesenteric cranealis causes a quantifiable
increment in the lipid peroxidation of the small intestinal mucosae in the rabbit as
consequence of the action ofthe oxygen free radicals. This increment can be evaluated
with the TEA test
The use of the enzyme superoxide dismutase as an antioxidant, dimiishes in a
very signiflcant way the lípid peroxídación of te small bowel mucosae in the AMC
ischaemic rabbit.
Ihe use of the enzyme superoxide dismutase like antioxidant, increase lightly,
although without statistical significance, te survival rate caused by the occlusion and
later repermeabilización ofarteria mesenteric cranealis.
More consequences of ischemia-reperfiisión in the territory of artery mesenteric
cranealis, are morphologic and histopathologic alterations that take place not only in the
thin bowel, but in far organs, in which provokes multiorganic distance lesions, that
justify by themselves the deat ofte animals.
The experimental model has demonstrated to be useful and valuable for survival
studies, although it is possible to reduce the proposed observation time (11 weeks); it
also may be useful in clinical assay of drugs and products intended to therapy and
prevention ofthe ischemia - reperfusion syndrome.
