Georges de Beauregard, who was bornin 1920 in the Saint Jérôme district of Marseille, producedshort, medium and feature length films for a numberof directors of the Nouvelle Vague (Rivette, Varda, Godard,Chabrol, etc..), some of which are considered as ‘recordsof history and time’, like « la passe du diable » based on thebook by Jean Pierre Kessel shot in 1957 in Afghanistan,Pierre Schoendorffer’s first feature legnth film, or « le petitsoldat » (1960), by Jean-Luc Godard on the Algerian War.—FIRST FILM PRIZEAwarded by the French Competition Juryto a first film in the International Competitionor Écrans Parallèles.The prize is sponsored by the Conseil Régionalde Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.PUBLIC LIBRARIES PRIZEAwarded by audio-visual librarians workingin 3 French mediathèques (media libraries),to a film in a new competition category whichdeals with issues seen through the prismof cultural diversity accessible to all types ofbroadcasting.The prize is sponsored by the company CVS.—MARSEILLE ESPÉRANCE PRIZEAwarded by the Marseille Espérance Juryto a film in the International Competition.Le Prix is sponsored by the City of Marseille.This year Marseille Espérance is celebrating its 20thanniversary and the joyous occasion of taking part inFIDMarseille for the tenth year running.
