In recognition of his offer, on 19 l December 1858, the Academy elected Sinas member of
the Board of Directors.
In recognition of the subsequent, in November 2006, on the occasion of the Day of
Hungarian Science, the Hungarian Academy of Science and the Institute of Research of Greeks in
Hungary, placed a memorial plaque in commemoration of István Széchenyi and Simonas Sinas in
the complex of offices of the Hungarian Academy of Science, in Nador street.
Later on, realizing the timeliness of Simonas Sinas's "Belief" meaning that "wealth is
obliging" in September 2007, the general secretary of the Hungarian Academy of Science and the
director of the Institute of Research of Greeks in Hungary decided to introduce the " Medal of
Simon Sinas".
On the occasion of the Celebration of the Hungarian Science, the medal is awarded to
individuals or associations that gained exceptional honor in the domain of supporting the Hungarian
scientific institutions and scientific research. The decision for the medal award is taken by a board
consisting of the general secretary of the Hungarian Academy of Science, the director of the Institute
of Research of Greeks in Hungary and the deans of the University of Technical and Economic
Science in Budapest, the University of Debrecen, the University of Eotvos Loránd in Budapest, the
University of Pecs, the University of Semmelweis and the University of Szeged. Simon Sinas
regarded the promotion of education as one of the most important issues of his time. He closely
attended the course of practical education ( gardening, viniculture) as well as the courses of primary
and higher schools. He considered it his duty to ensure the proper education of the personnel in his
property and many times he covered the expenses for the children's education. He established
charitable institutions in many places. For instance, on 20' July 1857 in the Godollo-Hatvan-Lorinc
field he set up an institute for the support of poor children with schooling material and grants, as
well as the teachers' salary.
Simon Sinas assisted the most talented artists of his era with means and orders.
Undoubtedly, Miklós Barabás is the most famous Hungarian artist, who Sinas gave orders to. The
most exquisite piece must have been The placement of the foundation stone of the Chain Bridge,
with which Simon Sinas attempted to perpetuate the memory of his father, Georgios Sinas, who was
one of the biggest investors of the Bridge.
