Revista de Silvicultură şi CinegeticăAbstractResponse of Hylobius abietis to different natural and sinthetic atractants.Comparison of H. abietis responses to synthetic and natural attractants in baited pitfall traps was studied in differentareas of Bistra Working Unit. As natural attractants it was used fresh cut billets of Norway spruce and pine in two variants:billets only and in association with ethanol. As synthetic attractants it was used „Cluj” bait and „Witaschek” bait(alpha-pinene and ethanol, volumes 1:2). The experiment has been conducted in three different one-year logging area«A+1» during 6 weeks. It was used 6 pitfall traps on each area. After each 7-th day, attractants change the places in pitfalltraps one another as well as everyone, along the period of the experiments ( 6 weeks), to occupy every of the 6 places.Total catches of beetles on pitfall traps baited with synthetic attractants was twice higher as in pitfall traps baited withnatural attractants. Billets of Norway spruce and pine catch approximately equal. By adding ethanol to natural attractants, the catches increase three times as billets alone and 30-50% as synthetic attractants.Synergism between alpha-pinene and ethanol in attracting H. abietis has been confirmed. Baited pitfall traps withsynthetic attractants are preferable as the lures because involve standardized baits which enable reliable comparisonresults. Baited pitfall traps with synthetic and natural attractants as billets in association with ethanol can be an alternativeof classical bark traps. Keywords: Hylobius abietis, natural attractants, synthetic attractants, pitfall traps, Norway spruce, pine.82
