Body<br />
Objective: Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is the most common primary malignancy of the salivary<br />
glands. Central mucoepidermoid carcinom<strong>as</strong> are extremely rare in the jaws. The aim of this<br />
presentation is to highlight the radiographic appearance of mucoepidermoid carcinom<strong>as</strong> in the<br />
maxilla.<br />
Methods: A 52 year old female represented pain, ulceration and tenderness in the left maxilla<br />
premolar/molar area The patient were examined with various radiographic modalities (such <strong>as</strong><br />
panoramic radiography and CBCT and contr<strong>as</strong>t-CT)<br />
Results: Various radiographic examinations revealed destructive radiolucent lesion in the<br />
center of the maxillary bone, together with soft tissue pathology. The definitive diagnosis w<strong>as</strong><br />
made after biopsy of the lesion <strong>as</strong> mucoepidermoid carcinoma.<br />
Conclusion: The etiology, clinical and radiographic findings, differential diagnoses are discussed<br />
through the presentation. Although it is rare the maxillofacial radiologist should be<br />
aware of this carcinoma in the maxilla.<br />
