QuALITy CONTROL IN DENTAL CbCT<br />

Objectives: Aim of our work w<strong>as</strong> a standard method of quality control aplicable to the different<br />

systems <strong>available</strong> for cone beam computed tomography for dental aplications. Results should<br />

help to a better understanding of distinct parameters of each system <strong>as</strong> well <strong>as</strong> a overall check<br />

of the system quality.<br />

Methods: A test specimen and evaluation software w<strong>as</strong> developed in close collaboration with<br />

a national standardisation comitee and industrial partners bringing objective quality control,<br />

systems‘ interfaces and illustrative quality me<strong>as</strong>ures together.<br />

Results: A set of parameters describing the systems‘ properties w<strong>as</strong> defined. It covers realized<br />

resolution, dose - normalized for diverse scan geometries, homogeneity, contr<strong>as</strong>t and noise<br />

behavior. An indicator for overall system quality describes the relation between information<br />

gained and applied radiation dose.<br />

Conclusions: A method w<strong>as</strong> designed helping to examine systems differing in size of reconstructed<br />

volumes and resolution on a common scale.<br />
