Objectives: The aim of our study w<strong>as</strong> to evaluate the efficacy of dentists in diagnosing dental<br />

and non dental findings on panoramic radiographs.<br />

Methods: 150 panoramic radiographs with a variety of dental and non dental findings were<br />

selected from our clinic. The radiographs were selected for specific findings they had on<br />

them,which the viewers were expected to identify. 25 dentists were <strong>as</strong>ked to view and mark<br />

their findings on a piece of paper. Besides the25 dentists, 2 general medical radiologists were<br />

<strong>as</strong>ked to perform the same t<strong>as</strong>k.<br />

Results: From the 150 radiographs in the c<strong>as</strong>e of dental findings t<strong>here</strong> w<strong>as</strong> diagnostic agreement<br />

between dentists and radiologists of high levels (>95%) such <strong>as</strong> in c<strong>as</strong>es of impacted<br />

teeth or cystic lesions, while in other c<strong>as</strong>es such <strong>as</strong> periodontal condition or small caries<br />

lesions the agreement levels were not too high (
