Objectives: To compare bone structure parameters at immediate and delayed implant treatment
protocols on CBCT images.
Materials and Methods: Ethical approval was obtained to carry out a split mouth study in 6
mongrel dogs. The 3rd maxillary incisor besides the 3rd and 4th mandibular premolar were extracted.
The dogs randomly received one out of 3 treatment protocols: normal extraction socket
healing (serving as control); immediate implant placement and immediate loading (IIP+IL);
delayed implant placement and delayed loading (DIP+DL). Thirty-six alveolar bone biopsies
were scanned using high resolution Cone Beam Computed Tomography (Accuitomo 170 CBCT).
The bone structural parameters were calculated in a 1mm circular-shaped region around the
middle of the implant by CTAn software (SkyScan). The results were analyzed using R software
(v2.8.1).
