Objectives: The aim of this study w<strong>as</strong> to evaluate the knowledge of undergraduate and postgraduate<br />

students to identify anatomic landmarks and technique errors and artifacts of the<br />

panoramic and periapical radiographies.<br />

Methods: Students from the third up to the fifth grade (n=129) of a 5-year dental curriculum<br />

and post graduate students (n=23) from academic years 2011-2012 took part in the study.<br />

The test consisted of 15 questions accompanied by 10 periapical radiographs that demonstrated<br />

one labeled anatomical structure, 5 panoramic radiographs consisting of 42 anatomical<br />

structure(s) with one or more labels. For the postgraduate students, the test w<strong>as</strong> about anatomical<br />

structures mentioned above and additionally 12 patient positioning error(s), 4 foreign<br />

body detection and also 3 technical errors were questioned.<br />

Results: Success rates of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade and postgraduate students to identify anatomical<br />

landmarks on panoramic and periapical radiographs were 59.6%, 50.9%, 26.9% and<br />

48.1% respectively according to Kruskal Wallis test (p
