objectives: Today, the capability of clinicians to evaluate the rate and the pattern of periimplant
bone changes needs to be improved as peri-implant bone changes dramatically affect
the success rate of implants. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the peri-implant
bone changes using digital radiography.
Method and Materials:The present study is an analytic- descriptive study which was conducted
on the 25 patients who referred to the implant department of Isfahan school of Dentistry.
Some patient randomly selected using simple random sampling. During the study, peri-implant
bone density and alveolar crest resorption were studied by digital radiography for each patient
in three periods: soon after implant insertion, two months and four months after implant
placement. In all of these three periods, parallel radiographs and XCP film holder were used.
At the end of these periods, three images, taken from each patient compared with each other
to evaluate the bone density changes. Data analyzed with SPSS statistical package and analyses
variant test. (α=0.05)
Results:Alveolar bone resorption showed a statistically meaningful difference in three periods
(P value =0.033) but there was no significant difference between three periods regarding the
density changes (P value=0.601).
Conclusion:According to the results of the present study, digital radiography can be used as an
accurate and sensitive devise to analyze changes in peri-implant bone which can help
clinicians to evaluate the prognosis of prosthetic treatments.
