If anything has been established about home-school relations, it is that there are
many ways for schools and homes to cooperate, and that no one way is superior.
They simply accomplish different purposes. Schools, parents and children almost
always benefit (Lemmer & Squelch, 1993:96).
There are several reasons why it is vital for a partnership to come into its own in
order to create a culture of learning (Kruger, 1996:31-32):

Education in South Africa has collapsed in some schools. Factors that have
caused this in some schools include the undermining of authority and
discipline, attitude problems on the part of some teachers and pupils,
financial and provisioning problems and a failure on the part of
communities to regard schools as community property.
In some cases some schools in South Africa have failed in their purpose.
Schools have become places that are unattractive and where pupils are
sometimes treated as objects and where creativity is suppressed. where
pupils do not feel at home and do not want to spend time.
Society as a whole is facing a crisis at present with societal problems such
as the following:
