Help with day-to-day running of the school

Shah (1994:26-28) maintains that parents as well as other members of the
community can perform a variety of routine tasks which are essential for the day­
to-day running of the school. As many parents as possible should be involved in
this area. Examples of help with day-to-day running of the school include the
following according to Van Schalkwyk (1988: 181); Theron & Bothma (1990: 161);
and Squelch & Lemmer (1994:98-99):

administering financial affairs;
maintenance and repair of school facilities;
protection of school facilities;
gardening;
assisting with school newsletters and school magazine;
helping with playground duty;
telephoning or helping to notify other parents of important events;
