Methods mobilisation<br />

Methods are ways of doing things. There are various methods used for mobilising<br />

communities. We can use one or more depending on the situation.<br />

1. What methods have you used to mobilise<br />

community members for an activity?<br />

Instruction to the Facilitator<br />

Ask participants to mention the<br />

various methods they have used to<br />

mobilise communities on different<br />

occasions for different activities.<br />

List them on the flip chart and<br />

discuss each of the methods with<br />

participants. Compare with Box<br />

2.3.3.<br />

<strong>Community</strong> mobilisation methods are ways of getting people in the community involved in<br />

finding out their problems and planning for solving them. Knowledge of the community is<br />

essential for effective community mobilisation. Some of the methods are listed in Box 2.3.3<br />

below<br />

Box 2.3.3: Methods for <strong>Community</strong> Mobilisation<br />

A. Awareness creation events<br />

• <strong>Community</strong> durbars, community meetings, National immunisation day, campaigns<br />

(general as well as door-to-door)<br />

B. Targeted events in specific areas of the community<br />

• Meeting on the site for community health compound, a public toilet, school, etc<br />

• Information sharing on up coming events<br />

• Co-sponsoring or coordinating an event<br />

C. Media campaigns<br />

• Radio announcements on national and local FM stations<br />

• Interviews covered by newspapers<br />

• Specific television (TV) programs<br />

• Regular columns in a newspaper<br />
