Assisting the CHO to Provide Services<br />

CHVs will mobilise target groups and gather relevant information. The CHV can do the<br />

following to help the CHO during outreach programmes:<br />

1. Mobilise target groups (organise gong-gong beating – encourage defaulters to attend,<br />

prepare meeting venue)<br />

2. Gather relevant information on health issues<br />

3. Help with the distribution of health products<br />

4. Help to weigh children and record information in their cards<br />

5. Give health education to target groups<br />

6. Provide nutrition education and demonstration - assist in organising and preparing<br />

food items e.g. weanimix, mpotor-mpotor/savoury porridge and egg porridge<br />

7. Assist with polio immunisation – either holding babies or dropping medication into<br />

their mouths<br />

8. Dismantle and pack materials or tidy up meeting venue<br />

9. Provide refreshment to CHO<br />

10. Give health education talks on malaria, diarrhoea, nutrition, exclusive breast feeding<br />

Topic 3 Role of the CHV at the CHC<br />

This topic looks at the CHV’s role in assisting the CHO deliver services to clients in the<br />

community health compound. The community members who come to the facility have<br />

various needs. They may be sick, in need of information, counselling, education or health<br />

promotional and preventive services like the RCH services.<br />
