Topic 2 Treatment of Diarrhoea
Children are the most vulnerable groups of people in our communities. Many diseases can
kill them if not properly treated. Diarrhoea is one of these diseases. A person has diarrhoea
if he or she passes watery stools three or more times a day. Diarrhoea drains the body of its
fluids and this dehydrates the person. Fortunately, there is a very simple way of managing
diarrhoea. This is done by giving oral rehydration salt (ORS). See Box 4.5.4.
