Module summary
In this Module, we discussed how certain things about a community are important
for effectively mobilising that community. We talked about the disease profile of the
community, the location of community land marks and the health status of the community.
We also discussed the various approaches used to bring people in the community together
to take part in assessing their health and developmental needs. We saw how this information
helps you to know what resources are available in the community and how to mobilise
them. We demonstrated that one of the main activities of the health volunteer is to collect
community data and analyse it for information that can be used in health service delivery.
One of the tools for doing this is the Community Client Oriented Provider Efficient Services
C-COPE. We also saw how society imposes on us values and attitudes that affect our
interactions with others and how these can harm us. Being asked to behave like a man or
woman can have its disadvantages which were clearly brought out in the exercise that we did.
