D. O<strong>the</strong>r MENA Countries<br />

This group includes countries with emigration history as receiving countries from <strong>the</strong><br />

region and outside. They are Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and The<br />

United Arab Emirates as o<strong>the</strong>r MENA countries. Medical studies require between six and<br />

seven years of study and tuition fees are very expensive especially for private medical<br />

schools. The following table shows that Saudi Arabia has <strong>the</strong> largest number of medical<br />

schools. Kuwait and Qatar have only one each. The cost of living in <strong>the</strong>se countries is<br />

very high as described in <strong>the</strong> table. In addition, tuition fees for medical student have<br />

increasing trends especially in private universities.<br />

Bahrain has four medical schools that provide education for six years with an additional<br />

year of supervised clinical practice required before <strong>the</strong> degree of Doctor of Medicine<br />

(MD) is awarded. Medical registration and license granting are compulsory with <strong>the</strong><br />

Licensure Office, Ministry of Health, to graduates of a recognized medical school who<br />

have successfully completed an internship year and passed <strong>the</strong> license examination 56 .<br />

Besides, Bahrain established agreements with all Gulf States and <strong>the</strong> Arab Board of<br />

Medical Specialties. Kuwait has only one medical school, <strong>the</strong> Health Sciences Center<br />

(HSC) in Kuwait University and provides studies for seven years. The degree of Bachelor<br />
