for the Divine principle and the Divine is full of love towards them. It is
a question of love responding to love; love which is saturated with
truth. 1.10.65, (19-77/78)
When men degrade themselves and behave worse than the beasts
from which those rose, the Avatar takes place and God moves among
men, warning, exhorting, revealing, encouraging, inspiring, illumining
and leading man towards his destiny. Krishna served as the charioteer
for Arjuna, for the Avatar utilises every chance to uplift man and teach
him the mastery of his impulses and instincts and even of his intelligence.
Krishna told Arjuna: “I have decided to assume a part in the
conduct of your war with the Kauravas.” I too have decided upon a big
task and these “Meetings of Veda scholars” at Prashanthi are the instruments
I have chosen for it. 22.10.66, (19-278)
This love is my distinctive mark, not the creation of material objects or
of health and happiness, by sheer exercise of will. You might consider
what you call “miracles” as the most direct sign of Divinity; but, the love
that welcomes you all, that blesses all, that makes me rush to the presence
of the seekers, the suffering and the distressed in distant lands
or wherever they are, that is the real sign! It is that which declares that
I am Sathya Sai Baba. For me, every day is a festival day, for my love
is showered everyday! 5.10.67, (20-91/92)
The way in which the Avatar has to be used for one's liberation and uplift
is this: Watch his every step, observe his actions and activities, follow
the guiding principle of which his life is an elaboration. Note his
love, his compassion, his wisdom and try to bring them into your own
life. Man has become artificial, crooked, twisted out of his normal
shape. He has left behind the simple natural ways and made his mind
a store-room for ideas, worries, anxieties and terrors. He could liven
very much less, with much greater joy for himself and others. If only he
remembered that he is a treasure chest with Divine spark in it he would
be more loving and more useful.
God incarnates for the revival of righteousness which includes morality,
truth, virtue, love and a host of other qualities that uphold the communities
of men as well as the individual. The other purposes usually
given, such as serving the devoted, destroying the wicked, re-establishing
the sacred tradition - these are all secondary. For, he who is
righteous will be guarded from harm by righteousness itself, he who is
