whatever action he does all belong to God. He plays his role in this
spirit, ascribing nothing to himself. The bad represents the attitude of
the actor, who is conscious of the role he is playing and does not forget
his individuality in his actions. He does not consider himself as merely
acting a part but regards himself as the doer. The difference between
the two is that while the former realises the temporary nature of the
part he is playing and is not attached to the things connected with the
role, the other develops attachment to the role he plays and does not
wish to part with things connected with the role. (...)
Human birth is a God-given gift which should be used with due care.
It should be filled with righteous acts. Unfortunately, today men misuse
all their God-given talents for unholy purposes. The mind should be
filled with good thoughts, the heart with compassion and the hands
should be engaged in selfless service. (15.2.98)
Peace
May this stream of love put out the burning fires of disquiet, ignorance,
injustice, and religion that are consuming you and may it slake your
thirst. May it shower on you peace, joy and happiness.
There are many people who are not even aware of the meaning of the
word, Prashanti. For the devotee it is as the very breath. The word is
taken by each to mean something different; many feel that they have
peace; when some worldly desire that was vexing them is satisfied!
But, that is not real peace, it is but a temporary short-lived interval between
one worry and another. The syllable “Pra” in Prashanti means,
expanding, enlarging, and so Prashanti means that type of peace, that
is the absence of desire, anger, greed and hatred. (3-1)
Prashanti means success in the elimination of the qualities, grouped
under activity and anger. This process is essential. The devotee must
be constantly engaged in practising it. What does the devotee strive
for? Fulfillment. In other words, he strives for peace. Now this peace
is the innate nature of man. Peace is the force, which comes to the aid
of those who try to develop discrimination, renunciation and keenness
of intellect. It is a phase of the eternal Divinity itself. Just as the eternal
Divinity, it has no beginning or end; no blemish can mar it; it is equalled
only by itself; it cannot be compared with anything else.
Peace must be manifested in feeling, word, posture and deed. (...)
