Duality - Unity - Oneness
Equanimity in the face of opposition and putting up with duality is the
privilege of the strong, the treasure of the brave. The weak will be as
agitated as peacock feathers; they are ever restless, they swing like
the pendulum from side to side; once towards joy, then towards grief

Equanimity is not the same as tolerance. Tolerance is putting up with
something tolerating it, bearing it, because you have no other choice;
having the capacity to overcome it, but disregarding it. Spiritual discipline
is patiently putting up with the external world of duality with inner
equanimity and peace, that is the path to liberation. Bearing all, with
discrimination - that is the type of tolerance that will yield good results.
Discrimination is the word used for such tolerance. It means the capacity
to recognise the nature of the objective world; that is to say, objects
that "come and go" are not eternal. (2-30)
The wise man is unaffected by the everpresent dualism of the objective
world. He is the person referred to as a sage. (...)
Manhood comes with the rejection of dualism. To deserve the status,
man ought to gain victory over internal foes, rather than the external.
His challenge is to conquer the twin foes of joy and grief. (2-32)
If you want to have unbroken bliss and happiness, this age of yours is
appropriate for reflection on the essence of non-dualism or advaita
philosophy. There are many people who do not think either of this life
or the life after death. Even if they do sometimes think about these
matters, the people who understand sacrifice enough to give up even
small things in the performance of their duty and think of doing good
so as to improve their lives, are very few in number. When you look at
such people, you make the mistake of regarding them as great people.
Looking at people who spend all their time and wealth in deriving
pleasure for themselves and in decorating and beautifying their own
bodies, you again make the mistake of thinking that they are intelligent
people. (...)
Further, man thinks that he is swallowing time, while time is there to
swallow man, moment by moment. Because you are so entangled with
the aspects of the body, mind and intelligence, you feel that you are
subordinate to time and that time will swallow you. However, if you can
