Today incredible things are happening in this world. Many people feel
very proud of their knowledge of science and think that this will help
them attain a very high position. These people question the very existence
of God and say that even if there is a God, there is no place
for him in their thinking and in their hearts. This is a ridiculous argument.
Examine what is implied in this statement with care. A person
who claims to be a very knowledgeable person cannot be so, because
if he is really wise, then God must be in his heart, for God is the very
embodiment of knowledge and learning. To say that God has no place
in his mind is only to say that he has no wisdom in himself. God is the
very embodiment of Atman and he is the self that is present in everyone
and to say that such a God is not present in one's mind is to say
that he himself does not exist and is the same as proclaiming that one
does not believe in oneself. (...)
God exists in everyone and therefore to say that God does not exist is
to say that he oneself does not exist. To say that God does not exist
is as ridiculous as saying that one has been born to a barren women.
To argue that there is no God is as bad as insisting that the one that
is arguing cannot speak. All these are meaningless words intended to
make up meaningless arguments. 1974, (36-6/7)
Citizens of Bharata (India) have always liked to move closer and closer
to God and therefore they have created more and more names appropriate
to God. For this reason and because every one is close to God,
each individual has given a favoured name to the Lord. Each individual
has given him the name which pleases him most.
Westerners have questioned why we create different names and
forms while God is only one. They think we ought to have only one
name and form. We have been creating various forms of God based
on ideas and our capacity. 1974, (36-48)
Some people ask the question that while Brahman, the Absolute Reality,
who is self effulgent, omniscient and omnipresent should be seen
by everyone, why is it that he is seen and recognized by only some
people. It is common experience that even the bright shining sun at a
great distance from us is not seen when we have thick clouds intervening
between the bright sun and ourselves. The clouds hide the sun
to some extent. When these thick clouds are blown away by the wind,
then the bright sun presents itself to us again. In the same manner,
however much you might try you will not be able to see your own image
