If everything is dedicated to the Lord, there will be no room for worry
or sorrow or even joy. If you rid yourself thus of attachment, peace can
never be disturbed. (3-30)
Peace can also be defined as true love towards the Lord, towards
Truth itself and towards true spiritual discipline. Hence it makes realization
of the Lord possible. Have the Lord as your sole aim, hold fast
to the desire to realize Him in this very birth, remain unaffected by lust
or greed, by joy and pain, praise and abuse or any such pair of opposites.
Fortitude such as this leads to realization. (3-32)
The bliss that transcends all bliss can be achieved, if a single spiritual
discipline, the constant remembrance of the Lord's name is practiced
and, if as a consequence, peace is attained. By this, the evil tendencies
of the lower nature can also be conquered. Know that God is the
goal of man; direct all attention on that goal; control the mind that wanders
away from it, this is the essence of the teaching of all the Vedas.
Practice this one discipline, and you have practiced all sacred commands.

Non-attachment, of course, does not mean the giving up of hearth and
home, or of high estate and even kingdoms. It is the understanding of
the Divinity immanent in everything, the fading away of all the distinct
names and forms, the bliss of experiencing in everything and every
place the Divine which is its reality, that is the true meaning of renunciation
and liberation. So long as one lives in the world of name and
form, one is burdened with attachment. How can it be called liberation
when the mind is immersed in thoughts, feelings and experience of the
objective world? One might have given up all but yet be full of these.
Such a person cannot be said to have non-attachment. Surely, even
for the acquisition of this pure spirit of liberation, peace is necessary.

To enjoy peace, mankind must be controlled and directed by ideals of
righteousness. This depends mutual tolerance in the family, based on
individual conduct which is pure, and aiming to at please every one.
Such conduct has a charm, all its own. Avoid in your behaviour, actions
and speech all trace of desire to pain others, to insult them, or to
cause them loss or misery to others. Find out the best means of reforming
yourself, practice this type of living, desist from injury to your-
