Let me tell you, it is only those who know the Shastras that can underst<strong>and</strong><br />

me. I am determined to correct you only after informing you of<br />

my credentials. That is why I am now <strong>and</strong> then announcing my nature<br />

by means of miracles - that is, acts which are beyond human capacity<br />

<strong>and</strong> human underst<strong>and</strong>ing. Not that I am anxious to show off my powers.<br />

<strong>The</strong> object is to draw you closer to me, to cement your hearts to me.<br />

Getting to know me is also a part of your destiny. <strong>The</strong> other day, on<br />

Vaikunta Ekadasi, when nectar (amrita) was being given by me a few<br />

who had come weeks ago, who had witnessed the creation of nectar<br />

on the riverbed <strong>and</strong> who had taken their seats in the long line of devotees,<br />

had to get up <strong>and</strong> go just when I was approaching their line <strong>and</strong><br />

thus, miss the chance of, perhaps, a lifetime. It is all “earned” opportunity.<br />

As a matter of fact, each one of you has to be saved: you have<br />

to escape from this net, when the opportunity comes. I shall not give<br />

you up, even if you forsake me; for it is not in me to forsake those who<br />

deny me. I have come for all. Those who stray away will come again<br />

to me, do not doubt this. I shall beckon them back to me. I bless you<br />

that you earn the vision of the Divine in this life itself, with this body itself.<br />

Looking at this vast sea of faces, I do not feel like speaking to you; I<br />

wish to derive bliss by just looking at you from here; looking at your<br />

faith <strong>and</strong> your devotion your looking at me, me looking at you; what<br />

else is needed for bliss to well up?<br />

You yearn to heat my words <strong>and</strong> listen to my voice also. That is the<br />

measure of your love. You are so accustomed to hear people speak,<br />

that if you do not hear, your ears ache! If they do not speak, their<br />

tongues become restless <strong>and</strong> even restive. <strong>The</strong>y are both so used to<br />

activity that it has now become difficult for you to sit quietly for a few<br />

minutes, communing with the silence within you!<br />

Man is called so because he has the capacity to enjoy inward contemplation<br />

of the meaning <strong>and</strong> significance of what he has heard: not only<br />

this capacity, but also the urge to the inner life. But you have not yet<br />

emerged out of the stage of listening; the teachers too have not progressed<br />
