How then, is love to be cultivated? It can be done through two methods:
1. Consider always the faults of others, to be insignificant and
negligible. Consider your own faults, however insignificant and negligible,
to be big, and feel sad and repentant. By these means, you avoid
developing bigger faults and defects and you acquire the qualities of
brotherliness and forbearance. 2. Whatever you do, do it, remembering
that God is omnipresent. He sees and hears and knows everything.
Whatever you speak, remember that God hears every word; discriminate
between the true and the false and speak only truth; whatever you
do, discriminate between right and the wrong and do only the right. Endeavour
every moment to be aware of the omnipotence of God. (4-19)
Love, flows from one heart to another, from one place to another, from
one person to another, ultimately reaching the destination called the
grace of God; such love is pure. But the kind of love or love which gets
tied up to one individual by saying: “Oh! He belongs to me, he is mine”,
does not flow but gets tied up to one individual. Such love will be called
love with an attachment to that particular individual. That kind of love,
is narrow, confined to one place and cannot be called love in the real
sense. (34-104)
When this feeling spreads to various things that you like, it takes the
form of desire. If this aspect is shown towards God, we call it devotion.
This love is the aspect of Brahman and because this love is present in
everyone, when we say: “We are stating a truth and an unquestionable
truth“. This is also why we say: “Love is God, live in love”. We also say:
“Start the day with love; spend the day with love; fill the day with love;
end the day with love and this is the way to God”. The one aspect
which fills the day and is synonymous with God is love and so we
should fill the mind with the aspect of love. (36-40/41)
Similarly if you wear the glasses of love, then all that you see in the
world will be love. If your vision is not filled with love, how can the
things that you see with your vision be full of love? (36-107)
The pipe which connects the devotion of the devotee and the grace of
God is love. God is always an embodiment of love and if the devotee
is filled with love, then love can establish this connection. Unless you
have all these three, God who is the original love and the link of love
between the two, a connection cannot be established. God who is love
can be realise only by love and not by any other means. (36-255)
