special aspect <strong>and</strong> he tries to acquire higher sense in that aspect <strong>and</strong><br />

in this process loses common sense. (...)<br />

Many scientific discoveries are made but because of your inability to<br />

use them for individual <strong>and</strong> common benefit, you are going very low in<br />

human values. (...)<br />

<strong>The</strong> fact that you are not enshrining sacred Divinity in your heart but<br />

becoming distant from it so that your body go where it likes is not a human<br />

quality at all. It is animal behaviour. Freedom is necessary but before<br />

you can enjoy freedom, you should underst<strong>and</strong> what it means.<br />

<strong>The</strong> freedom that is implied here should arise out of wisdom <strong>and</strong> character<br />

which you build up as a result of education. To make an attempt<br />

to transform the human nature in yourself <strong>and</strong> elevate it to the sacred<br />

Divine nature should be the purpose of all education that you wish for<br />

yourself. (36-1/6)<br />

From the time you wake up in the morning to the time you go back to<br />

sleep in the night, you spend all your time to earning food for your<br />

stomach. All the education, knowledge <strong>and</strong> ability that you have is being<br />

spent for this trivial purpose. Think of this, man! <strong>and</strong> find out what<br />

happiness you get by forgetting the Lord in this process. (36-134)<br />

<strong>The</strong> Veda has taught you the importance of various teachings such as<br />

right conduct <strong>and</strong> Brahman. We can say with that true education deals<br />

only with those matters which pertain to righteousness <strong>and</strong> Divinity. All<br />

education referring to aspects other than these cannot be called true<br />

education. <strong>The</strong> knowledge of Atman, or the knowledge that relates to<br />

Divinity <strong>and</strong> the knowledge that gives you some idea of the higher self<br />

alone is knowledge <strong>and</strong> that is what the Veda says. Everything else<br />

cannot come under the description of knowledge. (...)<br />

True education is that which connects activity with Divine conduct. <strong>The</strong><br />

connection between the two must become evident to you, must be accepted<br />

by you <strong>and</strong> put it into practice in your everyday life. That alone<br />

will be called real <strong>and</strong> complete education. If there is no appreciation<br />

of the need for action <strong>and</strong> its spiritual aspects, it cannot be called education.<br />

<strong>The</strong> three processes, namely study, reflection <strong>and</strong> comprehension<br />

which one has to adopt for reaching the end of the sacred formula in<br />

the Vedas have already been mentioned. Without going through these<br />

three processes, mere recitation can be called just scholarship, knowl-<br />
