edge. He chooses one small part of the totality of knowledge or one
special aspect and he tries to acquire higher sense in that aspect and
in this process loses common sense. (...)
Many scientific discoveries are made but because of your inability to
use them for individual and common benefit, you are going very low in
human values. (...)
The fact that you are not enshrining sacred Divinity in your heart but
becoming distant from it so that your body go where it likes is not a human
quality at all. It is animal behaviour. Freedom is necessary but before
you can enjoy freedom, you should understand what it means.
The freedom that is implied here should arise out of wisdom and character
which you build up as a result of education. To make an attempt
to transform the human nature in yourself and elevate it to the sacred
Divine nature should be the purpose of all education that you wish for
yourself. (36-1/6)
From the time you wake up in the morning to the time you go back to
sleep in the night, you spend all your time to earning food for your
stomach. All the education, knowledge and ability that you have is being
spent for this trivial purpose. Think of this, man! and find out what
happiness you get by forgetting the Lord in this process. (36-134)
The Veda has taught you the importance of various teachings such as
right conduct and Brahman. We can say with that true education deals
only with those matters which pertain to righteousness and Divinity. All
education referring to aspects other than these cannot be called true
education. The knowledge of Atman, or the knowledge that relates to
Divinity and the knowledge that gives you some idea of the higher self
alone is knowledge and that is what the Veda says. Everything else
cannot come under the description of knowledge. (...)
True education is that which connects activity with Divine conduct. The
connection between the two must become evident to you, must be accepted
by you and put it into practice in your everyday life. That alone
will be called real and complete education. If there is no appreciation
of the need for action and its spiritual aspects, it cannot be called education.

The three processes, namely study, reflection and comprehension
which one has to adopt for reaching the end of the sacred formula in
the Vedas have already been mentioned. Without going through these
three processes, mere recitation can be called just scholarship, knowl-
