Well, what is the real meaning of the word Gayatri? Does any one try
to know it today? The word is taken to mean either a Goddess or a formula.
Gayatri is that which protects (tra) the breath, the vitality or the
sense, beginning with sound. That is to say that which saves those
who sing it, or revere it and repeat it or meditate on it is called Gayatri.

The Veda, the Goddess mother will confer all boons on all those who
worship her. That Goddess is described in glorious terms in the sacred
text; if you understand these clearly, you can realize it, unaided.
Divine order imbued with such deep mysteries, is today rationalized
and interpreted willfully in various paltry senses, that is the reason why
the decline of Divine conduct. So, it is imperative to revive Divine law
and the principles of interpretation natural to the Divine truth which are
the basis of righteousness. Otherwise, the meaning will be changed
out of all recognition and the whims of individuals will prevail. Every act
will be stamped as right conduct whatever its nature! (8-40/45)
Amongst the lessons which the Rishi Viswamitra gave to the world,
Gayatri mantra is an important one. This mantra teaches that there is
equal opportunity of spiritual achievement for all religions, for people
of all countries and people of all communities and all places.
This mantra has something to do only with intelligence. It has nothing
to do with religious activity. You say: "Blossom my intelligence, give
importance to my intelligence, remove the darkness of ignorance and
let the intuition in me blossom.” It prays to the Lord who is present at
all time past, present and future and who is present at every place, to
come and burn away the darkness of ignorance and give brightness
of knowledge. (37-137/138)
If you intend to overcome delusion, you must establish yourself in God;
the delusion of man-power can be overcome only by the attainment of
God-power. The Gayatri promotes the acquisition of God-power.
Gayatri means “that which saves, when repeated"! It is the torch of wisdom,
given into the hands of those boys who venture into the regions
of intellectual inquiry and sensory restrictions. As paddy is treated to
a process of pestling and winnowing and cleaning in order to get rice
that can be cooked and eaten, these boys have to de-husk the individual,
discover the Atman hiding inside the five sheaths of physical matter,
vital energy, mind, intelligence and bliss. The intensive meditation
