Women and Men
In God’s view, there is no difference between men and women. (...)
These differences are related only to the body, and not to the living being
or Atman. Both men and women experience joy, sorrow, hunger,
thirst, pleasure and pain irrespective of their sex. The experience is the
same in essence. There may be only minor differences. Women show
their sorrow outwardly and shed tears while men show greater forbearance
and experience sorrow internally. In regard to the external conduct,
there may thus be some differences, but when you take up the
inner significance it is the same for both sexes. (35-225)
You have the aspect of man or human being (purusha) in your innerself
but you are pay don’t any attention to the qualities that go to make
a man or entitle him to call himself a man. When you aspire to become
a man, you must be prepared to accept all the qualities of a human being.
Facet with hunger, a women will eat and so will a man. If both men
and women react to situations in an identical manner it follows that
man is as weak as women and in this sense they are both weak. Man
should have strength and a women is characterised by weakness. It
is for this reason that a women is described by the word “one without
strength”. Today in order to fulfil the normal requirements in the world
and in order to do the various tasks on the stage of this world, some
of us call our selves men and others women. This is related to wordly
life but spiritually and in truth, all are characterised by the qualities of
women. Take a very good example of this. During the college day at
the Anantapur Girl's College usually Divine dramas are staged and in
such a drama, one of the girls plays the part of Sakkubai while another
girl plays the part of Kassipati but behind the screen, she knows and
calls herself by her real name. In a similar manner on the stage of this
world, some of us call ourselves men while others call themselves
women. Such nomenclature is appropriate only for the purposes of
acting on the world stage but so long as one does not posses the qualities
of a human being, one should not call one self as man. (36-87)
It has been established that for the prosperity or decline in the world,
women alone are responsible. Women alone are responsible for improving
the world and make it a happy place to live in and bring it to
the heights of glory. In the Bhagavadgita women have a very distinctive
quality, and that should be given precedence in everything. Our
