In the same manner karma, dharma, and Brahman are simply three
different aspects of the same Brahman.(...)
One who is on the path of wealth will think: “I am in the light”, one who
follow the path of Divine conduct will think: “The light is in me”, one who
has moved on to the aspect of Brahman and learnt to experience Brahman
in everything will say: “I am the light.” (36-61+64)
As a result of the attitude of mind, these two aspects of positive and
negative arise. Because Brahman is omnipresent, Brahman is present
even in the minds of people, and “bad” and “good” have been used to
represent the two aspects of mind. Positive and negative are not two
distinct separable attitudes nor are they separate situations. One happens
to be the opposite of the other.
This may be referred to as one being a reaction of the other. Such opposites
are present in every aspect and in every situation. Pain and
pleasure always come together and no one can separate them. Pleasure
is something which you cannot see in on isolated condition. If pain
fructifies, you call it pleasure. Just as pain and pleasure are not two
separate things, so also bad and good are not two separate entities.
For the prosperity of the world, God is taking the aspect of bad as a
kind of cure. The aspect of “wrath” which God takes for a specific purpose
is regarded as something which signifies terror. This is not right.
From time immemorial, several Rishis have performed spiritual practice
and undergone many troubles. In order for the person doing spiritual
practice reach a certain stage and get recognition, God creates
obstacles in his path. This is not a trick on the part of God nor is it the
purpose of God to give trouble to the devotee. After on year of education,
the university conducts an examination. This examination is conducted
with a view to send you to a higher class and is for your own
good. It is not conducted to trouble you. You are calling this examination
a test. So also, God introduces an occasional test to find out the
strength of the person performing the spiritual discipline. Because your
attitude towards the test is not correct, it sometimes gives you the feeling
that if causes you great trouble. Sometimes, you pray to God and
say: “Oh God! Why are you subjecting me to all these tests?” You ask
that all these tests be stopped but if the tests are stopped, you cannot
rise higher. If one wants to learn to drive a plane or a boat, one must
obtain a certificate of fitness or a licence and for this one will have to
go through a test. If you desire that there should be no test, it means
that there is no desire to reach a higher place and you want to remain
where you are. (...)
