modate a greater flow of traffic at various
periods should such be necessary.
No hard and fast rules can be given for
remodeling a theatre to make it conform
to the best thinking on full-vision pointof-purchase
merchandising. Some chain
operators have set up their own theatre
planning and design departments to provide
the most effective design for their
outlets. Even in these, the individual unit
is given special treatment according to
architectural structure, harmony with adjacent
buildings, volume of business anticipated,
geographical location, customer traffic,
etc.
When you decide to modernize consult
your architect and with him establish your
plan. Then consider exterior and interior
design. Arrange your modernization program
so that it may be carried through to
completion at one time. This is important,
even though on a limited budget, because
you will then have modernized in the shortest
time possible and the necessity of operating
at handicaps periodically Is eliminated.
You also gain the benefit of the entire
effect of your modernization immediately
and will enjoy the additional patron'
age from the very beginning. This completi
modernization also allows for all of yomi
equipment and materials to be installed ii|i
A Good Foundation
A Building Essential
A building is no better than its
foundation and footings. A good foundation
and footings will last the expecte<
life of a building.
Faulty downspouts and roof
Is
drain sew'
ers will cause excess saturation of eartl
under and around the footings and foun-,
dations, thus causing settling and crack'j
ing which will weaken any building. Ij
is
a costly major repair to correct a condl-:;
tion of this kind. Many buildings haTi'
drain tile at or near the footing level, ano
although they were installed to keep th«
foundation and basements dry, they wlloften
clog with soil and form a storagt
pocket for moisture if defective drain:
are permitted to exist. Top surface grad-.
ing from the building helps to prevent excess
moisture at the building line.
