YOU CAN BUILD A DRIVE-IN
Continued from page 61
only remaining problem is the attraction
board.
Several of the larger sign contractors
throughout the United States have developed
stock types of attraction boards
that may be purchased at a very nominal
price. The majority of these boards do
make use of steel frames and since the sign
is an adjunct of the theatre, its erection is
a part of the project, and compliance must
be made with Order M-4A. If the addition
of the sign would bring the total tonnage
of steel on the job to more than the
prescribed weight, or if the cost of
the prefabricated attraction board is greater
than the exhibitor desires to invest, it
is a simple matter to design a wood board
that will be satisfactory.
We can now readily understand how
drive-in theatres may be erected under
NPA Order M-4A when they were practically
prohibited under the original NPA
Order M-4.
Razed Materials Count
It is
important for theatremen who plan
to use materials from a razed building in
constructing a new drive-in that the restricted
materials which they thus acquire
must be counted in the total of such materials
permitted by the NPA. That is, both
new and old materials may not exceed the
allowance of two tons of carbon steel and
200 pounds of copper.
Insure Drive-In Equipment
When It Is In Storage
Drive-in owners should be certain to
maintain insurance coverage on equipment
placed in storage warehouses during the
closed season. If the warehouse provides
insurance it should be so stated upon the
receipt.
MAINTENANCE POINTS
Continued from page 64
Maintain adequate insurance coverage
at all times. The courts are being
very liberal in awarding judgment in
personal injury cases.
Keep the shrubbery trimmed, the lawn
areas cut, and the flower gardens
weeded.
^ ^ ^
Have frequent inspections of all seating
facilities and check for pitch
pockets, splinters or other conditions
that might cause injury to a patron's
person or clothing.
^ ^ ^
Keep aU directional and other signs
freshly painted.
Train ushers to watch ramps for
empty bottles or other items that may
be discarded from the cars and which
may cause injury to a patron or to automobile
tires.
