Tleverly Miller, Leavenworth. Kas., theatreman,
stopped in at the BOXOFFICE
plant this week to offer an official denial
that the pig which he has on display at
his theatre is "on loan" from Missouri Theatre
Supply Manager L. J. Kimbriel. "I
bought that pig," said Miller, adding that
with the pig in the theatre lobby his popcorn
sales had shown a big increase. It's
amazing, said Miller, how many people stop
to feed the pig and to talk to him. He said
he was staging a pig giveaway for November
30 and that he would give the animal to
the person who guessed the exact weight
of the pig. "If they don't guess the exact
weight," he said, "I'll keep him."
Unique, Barn-Style House
Is Purdin's First Theatre
BROOKFIELD, MO.—The Movie Barn,
Purdin, Mo.'s first theatre, was dedicated
with two shows attended by approximately
500 persons. Craig Beckett, manager of the
theatre, had a Technicolor booking for the
formal opening and ten baskets of groceries
were given away.
The theatre is located on Highway 5 just
north of the Purdin Mercantile Store. It is
a 32x56-foot structure and decorated in barn
style. Included in the decorations are two old
wagon wheels, one outside the building and
the other in; a wolf head, an old time wheat
cradle, horse collars and pads. The electric
light fixtures are lanterns. Beckett said the
theatre would seat about 600 persons and pictures
will be shown on Wednesday and Saturday
evenings. There was both an afternoon
and evening show for the dedication.
