Wallpaper is the most effective means
of getting a really decorative effect and
providing an interesting background for
the various sections of theatres. It is easy
to care for, economical and simple to install,
and gives character to any theatre
whether it be very small or extremely large
and majestic.

Wallpaper is most effective in the lobby,
the main sections of the theatres, along
the stair cases, on the ceilings, in lounges
and powder rooms, and in the management

whole decorative scheme of a theatre?
The easiest way to be sure that the colors
used in any decorative scheme are harmonious
is to select the wall paper first.
The walls are the largest area in any auditorium
and keynote the entire decorating
plan. The artists who design and color contemporary
wall paper have spqnt years in
studying the most effective ways of combining
various shades and colors, and
manufacturers take infinite pains to see
that the finished product has the exact
tones desired. Rely on the talents and

skill of those who make the wallpaper and
you will have no trouble in decorating your
theatre with a pre-tested compatible color
scheme.
Once you have selected the paper,
choose the furnishings for the rest of the
space. Woodwork should match the ground
color in most cases, however, this certainly
is not a hard and fast rule. Any compli-

less costly than photomurals or painted
scenes.

in theatre lobbies?
Panoramic scenics are particularly appropriate
for the lobby as are large-scale
designs. These have a dramatic effect and
give a "furnished" look to an otherwise
bare area. Papers which simulate marble,
leather,
or wood-grained paneling are also
suitable for the lobby. Designs which resemble
metallic grille work or architectural
structures such as dados are especially interesting
in the lobby as well as in the main
section of the theatre. Marbleized paper is
especially effective around pillars and other
supporting columns. It is equally suitable
for the balus.rades and the counter tops,
both in the boxoffice and check rooms. For
added durability these surfaces can be
shellacked and waxed, this gives the surface
a finish and patina otherwise unattainable.

of papers. It is best, however to stick to
those patterns which are rich looking but
